Chiropractic Care and the New Patient

Spinal Nerve Stress:

Welcome to the world of chiropractic. Doctors of Chiropractic offer a safer, more natural form of health care for the entire family. Chiropractors correct spinal nerve stress – a serious, often overlooked distortion of the body structure that damages the nerves, brain and spinal cord.

Spinal nerve stress destroys both physical and emotional health. It interferes with one’s natural healing ability, altering body chemistry, creating dis-ease or loss of wholeness.

If left untreated, this condition can damage the nerves that travel throughout your body and send messages to co-ordinate the function of your internal organs, muscles, glands, tissues and cells. Perhaps most distressing is that the site of the original structural distortion is often painless – most people are unaware they have this “silent killer” in their body.

Causes of Spinal Nerve Stress:

Stress of any kind can lead to spinal nerve stress. Examples are accidents, poor posture, pregnancy, childbirth, awkward sleeping positions, dental work, bad fitting dental appliances, poor diet, tension, lack of exercise, poor footwear or overexertion and other traumas. If uncorrected, spinal nerve stress can lead to serious health problems.

A Visit to the Chiropractor:

Your visit will include a spinal check-up to locate your spinal nerve stress and a spinal adjustment to relieve structural damage and free your nervous system from stress – to rebalance your body structure, releasing blocked energy, enhancing muscle strength and co-ordination, normalizing body tissue, improving organ function and raising resistance to disease.

Chiropractors are uniquely able to locate and correct spinal nerve stress, removing interference to your brain and spinal cord, improving your natural healing ability.[i]

Chiropractic is not disease treatment, but if you have any health problem or condition it is essential that your spine be free of nerve stresses which will interfere with your natural healing ability.

Spinal Nerve Stress damage:

Almost everyone has spinal nerve stress – it is a universal condition. Often found in infancy and childhood due to birth stress or childhood falls, it is common by adolescence and adulthood.

It distorts or unbalances posture and body structure – of the spine, hips, skull, including the jaw joint – causing energy loss, fatigue and unnatural wear and tear on joints, ligaments, tendons and muscles (weakness, spasm, soreness). Further, spinal nerve stress can cause your entire body to weaken, have less resistance to disease, stress, and age faster due to its damaging effects on your neuro-endocrine system (brain, spinal cord, nerves and glands). Spinal nerve stress is a destroyer of physical and emotional health and interferes with your natural healing ability.[ii]

Why Should I Return If ‘m Feeling Fine?

You have had several adjustments and now you feel better than you’ve felt in years. You will be happy to come back if you have any future problems – but the chiropractor suggests periodic spinal check-ups. Why? The thought of continued visits may bother many people. Why would the chiropractor ask you to continue coming in even after your present problems have cleared up?

That’s because feeling good is NOT the same as being healthy. Were you really healthy the day before you came down with that bad cold? Depending solely on our feelings to gauge our health is unscientific and dangerous. By the time you have symptoms your body could have been in a state of dis-ease for weeks, months or even years.

Chiropractors emphasize the important of spinal health care as a cornerstone of good health. By freeing the spine of nerve stress doctors of chiropractic are helping you to maintain health and prevent disease before obvious symptoms appear.

Phases of Chiropractic Spinal Care:

  1. The Acute Phase – the patient is in a state of discomfort, pain or disease. Many people first visit a doctor of chiropractic when they are in this phase.
  1. Reconstructive or Spinal Healing Phase – an individual in this phase may find that nearly every time they come in for a spinal check-up, some part of their spine is out of alignment. A series of visits may be needed for the spine to properly hold its alignment.
  1. Health Maintenance Phase – this phase shows the spine is holding its adjustments and you come in for periodic spinal check-ups. Think of this in the same way you think of a car tune-up every few thousand miles, or dental and other health check-ups.

Benefits of Chiropractic Care:

Even seeing the doctor of chiropractic only when you are sick and suffering is better than no chiropractic at all. Chiropractic natural care in any form is a lot better than resorting to drugs and surgery. Why be content to be merely free from pain when you can also ensure better health, vitality and strength for yourself and your family for your entire lives?

One day most families will all visit their neighborhood doctor of chiropractic for regular spinal check-ups. They will do it because a spine without nerve stress makes for a healthier body, with more energy and greater resistance to disease.[iii]

Chiropractic is second only to orthodox medicine as the preferred provider of primary health care. No other health profession devotes such serious scientific study to the spine and its relationship to health.[iv]

Chiropractic check-ups are one of the safest and easiest ways of ensuring health. Remember, spinal health spreads over the whole body.
